New Music Tuesday

New Music comes out every Tuesday right? Recently I bought some new tunes from Amazon and iTunes. (BTW, Amazon has no restrictions on how many “back-up” copies you make. I highly recommend them) On Tuesday May 26th I bought the new Hillsong United album. And then on June 2nd I bought the new DMB album. Both are great, different than their previous stuff, yet still recognizable.

Before I purchase, I like to read reviews whether I know I’m going to buy it or not. Both initial reviews were not very good. People were pretty negative, especially the DMB folks. So I was thinking, how could you rate any new music after the first time you listen to it? Music is about experience. When I hear a worship song for the first time, even though I may be able to tell the potential it has, it still doesn’t mean much until you put experience with it. Music brings us to a place every time we listen, whether you get lost in the story of the music or the experience you had when you heard it. When I hear some old school rap music, I remember driving around my small town with the music blasting out my convertible when I was in high school. When I here Kenny Chesney, I think of our honeymoon at Panama City Beach (and the rest of our first year of marriage). Now, when I hear the new Hillsong stuff, I think of the concert we went to the week after it came out. I listened to it extensively the first week it was out b/c we knew they would play a lot of it at the show.

So, through experience both of these new CD’s, MP3’s, whatever, have grown on me and become all I listen to at the present time :-)

What are you listening to right now? And how long did it take for you to like it?
