I Heart Tumblr
So, I was reading a blog entry recently and saw that John Mayer is forsaking Twitter for Tumblr. Read about it HERE. His points are interesting. The fact that, it is hard to define your total thought in 140 characters is something I struggle with. I like to be pithy about things, but it takes some effort to widdle my words down.Tumblr allows me to use as many, or as little words as I want.

A True Disciple
Think about this… I have said several times to various people, “when we listen to sermons or teachings, just take away one thing from what is being said and apply it to you”. Well, I have come to conviction that this is wrong. In reading “Radical-Taking back our faith from the American Dream” David Platt challenged me in rethinking this consumer Christian mindset....

Book Review: Religion Saves

Religion Saves: And Nine Other Misconceptions by Mark Driscoll
I’m a Driscoll fan. I’m not a “follower” because I only follow Jesus, but I am a fan. Sometimes a guy needs a good swift kick, you know. Driscoll will give it to you. The basis of this book was a series that Mars Hill Church did a couple years ago. A poll went out to the church,...

Slap in the Face
My blog seems kind of boring, and more for me than anyone else, mostly because I’m probably the only one that reads it :-) I was reading what Ben said about the “platform of the future” and it hit me. It “slapped me in the face” you might say.
Visual entertainment for me is sitting down and watching a TV show with my wife at night. Ya, I know, pretty old fashioned....

Book Review: The Principle of the Path
Listened to on 3/18/2010
The Principle of the Path by Andy Stanley
Even though I listen to him a lot and love his teaching about leadership, I have never read an Andy Stanley book before (believe it or not). I was ready to get into it! Stanley has a great way of bringing out the depth of God’s Word and applying it to leadership and in this case, any aspect of life. The Principle of the...

Book Review: Jesus Wants to Save Christians
Listened to on 3/11/2010
Jesus Wants to Save Christians by Rob Bell, Don Golden
The first thing I noticed about this book was that in true Rob Bell fashion, it was creatively read like a conversation between the two authors without the rigidity of a “professional” reader.
The first couple chapters cover the meta-narrative of scripture. What I mean is the big-picture story of the...

Book Reviews, A Background
I have been reading A LOT lately, mostly for class at SEBTS, but I have “discovered” audiobooks for my six hour weekly drive to Wake Forest, NC and back. I can usually finish a book every week. So, what I’d like to do, is try to write a short review from my perspective. I’ve listened to a lot in the past month and a half, so it could take me a while. I think I’ll work...

Some Encouragement/Advice
If you are in any position to encourage folks in your life, may I suggest something to you? Don’t ever encourage people with generalities. (i.e. “you need to go to seminary”) Be specific about why things are important. (“you need to go to seminary because it will change your range of understanding of the reading and interpretation of God’s word and...
Solace @ Hampton Coliseum
If you follow any of my different social sites, you’ll probably hear about this more the next couple weeks. Our worship band, Solace will be playing for the Arena Racing crowd at the Hampton Coliseum on March 5th @ 7:30 (doors open at 6:30).
We began this journey about 3 years ago while playing for the youth at OVBC. After some shift in leadership structure, the band continued on as more of...
In The Word
Yesterday marked the end of a 30 day period in my life where I have literally been in the Word of God more than ever. NewThru30 is a reading plan that takes you through the New Testament in 30 days. It was designed by the awesome folks at Elevation Church. I will confess, that even as a pastor, I have a tough time getting in the Word as often as I should. This study helped me in two ways. (There...
Our Youngest Is Getting Fun
Not to say that she wasn’t fun before, but check out this convo that happened between LeighLeigh (our youngest daughter, 15mo) and our babysitter’s husband…
LL: woke up and waved “Hi” to Bill
Bill: are you a queen?
LL: Nod “yes” repeatedly
Bill: Good afternoon, your majesty
LL: (in sign language) thank you! thank you!
Hahahahah! Man I was weak....
iPad Article
I haven’t said much to anyone about the iPad since last Wednesday’s announcement. I am an Apple fan, but not in a cult-ish kind of way :-) I do, however think that this device will revolutionize media in general. THIS ARTICLE was posted by my friend @churchydave. Read it with your stigma’s put aside. Again, revolutionary!

The Still Small Voice
I received this email from my pastor recently. It’s an article by Rick Warren on a very practical way to get yourself in a position to hear the voice of God. Praise God for Pastor Rick and his ministry.
Now, don’t just read it…DO IT!
Receiving guidance from God

News and Notes
Hey everyone, I just realized I haven’t blogged in a while. I’ve noticed a lot of people lately have cut back on blogging and they say they’ll blog when they have something to blog about. That has pretty much always defined aarondininny.com. But, lately i have just forgot! The past couple weeks have been awesome at OVBC and the Dininny household.
On Oct 18-21st we had a revival...

#CAT09 Reflections part 3
This is a continued series of posts about Catalyst ‘09 and the people there with me.
Dave Daniels-Dave is the Media Director at Reality Church in Va Beach and he runs “churchymedia”, a website geared to help small churches do big church production. He and I have known each other for a few years now and this was our 2nd Catalyst experience together. Dave brings out a side of me...

#CAT09 Reflections part 2
This is a continued post about Catalyst ‘09 and the great people that I was able to “lean on”.
Brian Metz-I met Brian at “The Nines” online conference via twitter. He asked the question, “does anyone need a roommate for Catalyst? I wasn’t even sure if I was going yet, but I said “sure, I do!” So we talked, via twitter/facebook. I never even...

#CAT09 Reflections
There is no way I can put into words how this past week has affected me. I went to the Catalyst Conference in ATL Wed-Fri. I heard many amazing leaders like Andy Stanley, Malcolm Gladwell, Tony Dungy, Rob Bell, Chuck Swindoll, Louie Giglio, Francis Chan and many more. I heard amazing stories from Compassion International, KIVA, Hope International, Plywood People, Bethany Christian Services and...

Thoughts On Guilt
These are some thoughts I’m trying to put together for a future sermon. I’ve struggled with this, most of my life, growing up in “holiness churches”. My Christian Ethics class has been great for this struggle! Read the scripture/story, then read my thoughts.

Take A Break
I’m on vacation right now in Myrtle Beach, SC. A tourist trap for sure, but notice “right now” is the off season. We have avoided the crowds the past 3 or 4 years and enjoyed the beach for what it is. Because we live in the Virginia Beach area, we have the same touristy problems there. So, this off season, instead of staying at a family owned place, we decided to stay at the...

Watch Pastor Matt Carter give an awesome example of how to build community. We deal with this all the time. What do you do to be “on mission”?

Notice the New-ness
I’ve put a Sermonplayer “widget” on the sidebar under my Blogroll. I hate listening to myself, but I have been able to overcome some horrible habits in doing so. It is very beneficial. If you are someone looking for insight, enjoy. Or if you are a seasoned communicator, PLEASE do not hesitate to give me some constructive criticisim. You can also find (a bigger version of) the...

On a Personal Note
I sent this letter to some of my family members recently. I took out some of the personal notes, but I felt I should put it on here and just let God work!
Thanks for reading…
Greetings from the A.O. Dininny’s in Norfolk, VA. We hope this letter finds you all very well. As most of you know, I (Aaron) graduated from ODU last year and finally received my Bachelor’s Degree in Business-Finance....

What a Weekend!
Wow, this weekend was crazy! It started out at a Friday night speaking engagement for a church lock-in. Our band also played a worship set that was great. Sound was poor, but it still turned out well. Saturday AM I drove one of my “former” youth :-) to Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC. Levi was a great student of mine and now is just a great friend! Sad he’s gone, but look...
